Abstract
Favorable information was presented at the 4th Annual Meeting of the Korean Chemotherapy Association in 1961 concerning the use of 1 gm. of streptomycin daily with PAS and isoniazid.
The result of this report indicated that streptomycin was well tolerated in this dosage.
But we observed few patients of SM. toxicity. In this regarding 0.5 gm. daily dose of streptomycin was nontoxic, and its use with isoniazid and PAS inpatients whose had no previous experience of tuberculosis chemotherapy brought about a quite satisfactory Clinical result.
We studied five regirens of tuberculosis therapy for four months, i. e., PAS-isoniazid, isoniazid-SM(bi- of tri-weekly), PAS-isoniazid-SM(bi- or triweekly) , PAS-isoniazid-SM(1 gm. daily) and PASisoniazd-SM(1/f gm. dailY).The results obtained were mainly concentrated onto clinical and roentgenographic improvement, reversal of infecfousness, decrease oferythrocytes sedimentation rate, increase of body weight, increase of thenumber of lymphocytes and obteration or minimizing of cavity.
In this regimen discontinuing occured in only one case of hearing disturbance out of 59 cases. Despite of the discontinuing of treatment the grade of hearing disturbance was slight.
We have learned that PAS-isoniazid-SM 1/2 gm. daily has brought us the impression of excellency as favorable as SM 1 gm. daily regimen in tuberculosis treatment.
